Auburn Head Coach's Salary Sets New Record for Group of Five
Details of the Contract
Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze has signed a new contract that will pay him an annual salary of 65 million per year, sources have confirmed. The six-year deal is fully guaranteed through the 2030 season, making Freeze the highest-paid coach in the Group of Five. ESPN's Pete Thamel reported that Freeze's deal also includes incentives that could push his total compensation even higher.Freeze's previous contract at Liberty University was for eight years and paid him an undisclosed salary. However, last month, he agreed to an amendment that would have paid him an annual salary of 65 million starting in 2024. Freeze's decision to leave Liberty for Auburn came as a surprise to many, as he had just led the Flames to their first-ever bowl game victory.
Freeze's salary at Auburn is the highest ever paid to a Group of Five coach. It also puts him among the top earners in the SEC. According to the USA Today coaches salary database, Freeze's salary ranks ninth among public schools in the conference, ahead of South Carolina's Shane Beamer (6.5 million) and Missouri's Eliah Drinkwitz (6.5 million).
